Who Is This God? aims to be a creative documentary video about many exciting aspects of the God of the Bible. It will be largely based out of Isaiah chapters 40-51, though it may take ideas from other passages as well. Read the chapters on BibleGateway. Development of this film will be unique in that it will be collaboratively developed via suggestions and discussions on Twitter.
Why these chapters of Isaiah? They bring great comfort by speaking about God's power, creative ability, and care for us. They also speak of the importance of seeing Him as who He really is, in contrast to the "gods" invented by humans, which are powerless. They assure us that God will take care of His own and that justice is coming in the end when all see His glory. We will seek to portray that in a way that is engaging.
As much as possible on a limited budget, we need the production of this film to be world-class. So many examples of 'Christian" media are out there that are done
half-heartedly and seem to show that Christians are not capable of producing quality material. Nothing could be farther from the truth, and I want to see Christ-honoring
media of all kinds reach the highest quality standards. The One we speak of is worthy of nothing less!

My ministry vision for some time now has been encouraging Christian young adults to produce video and other media, as well as some other creative ideas to let our culture know about Christ. People are increasingly living as though God doesn't exist, and the New Atheists are gaining a lot of ground. I believe the way to counter this is to encourage young adults to live their faith, promote sound doctrine, show that faith is reasonable, and show how exciting the truths about God really are.
The greatness of the God of the Bible -- the triune God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit -- cannot be overstated. He created the universe, holds it in His hands, and guides history with sovereignty. He is powerful enough to provide for all of our needs. He is loving enough to sacrifice Himself so that we as sinners have the opportunity to live with Him. If you think about it, you can realize that He truly has the answer to every single earthly problem.
Why doesn't everyone know that? What a tragedy it is to ignore Him!
This video will proclaim that in a way that is compelling and as artfully done as possible on a limited budget.
Beyond the film Who Is This God, I have another goal with this endeavor. I want to encourage a new way of thinking about ministry, and see
if this medium works as a collaboration tool. Most importantly, I want Christian young adults to come up with their own ministry ideas and run with them.
A major open question, that will need to be one of the first things decided, is the general "feel" or genre of the film. I definitely want to see some action,
but will it be fully acted or will it be more like a "normal" documentary where there are a lot of narrative roles? If I write it, it will be mostly the latter,
but the former would be more engaging, which is why I am opening up this project so much. I'm sure there are many, many people with better ideas than I have for
how to present these truths.
These chapters of Isaiah contain much scientific content, and it gives us the opportunity to delve into how science corroborates what the Bible says about God's
incredible wisdom in designing the earth and the universe. The question is, how much do we want to get into that? If the film does convey scientific concepts,
I promise that it will be real science and not young earth "creation science." This will be opposed by some Christians. Furthermore, does getting into science
take the spotlight off the cross of Jesus Christ? Nevertheless there is enough good stuff out there that I will likely want to incorporate some of it in a limited way.
Thoughts about any of this should be sent by Twitter (see below).
Above all we need prayer warriors. Nothing can be accomplished for God's kingdom unless it is accompanied by prayer. Pray that the Lord is in this at every step. Specifically:
After that, first we simply need creative thinkers to figure out what the film should be like and to write its script.
Some point down the road we will need actors, musicians, and other artful people.
We will also need film equipment and props. I intend to largely finance this myself, but there may be need of something that someone has and would
be willing to lend to the project -- that would be most welcome. We will get to that in time. I have a Christianbook.com affiliate link below.
Any procedes received from there will help defray the costs of camera equipment. I do not intend to ask for direct donations of equipment or money.
Note that no one will be paid for this because there will be no income (see below). This is for God's glory, nothing else.
I consider it a prime goal that Who Is This God must be freely distributable with no limitations. Everyone who produces media, whether
filming, audio, or art, may keep the copyright on their own contribution. However by submitting it for use in the film, it will be necessary for
the producer to guarantee irrevocable worldwide rights to distribute freely in conjunction with this work.
At the moment, contact should be done exclusively via Twitter. Begin your tweet with @whoisthisgod. I look forward to hearing from anyone with ideas.
There are two organizations I want to link to because they have profoundly impacted my view of God and are largely responsible for
some of the thinking that led to the idea of this film.
Christianbook.com is a great company that has been around a long time. Any purchases through this link will help with the costs
of making this film. If you have some you'd like to add, just message me on Twitter!
A World of Difference first gives you a logic lesson and some important points to remember when testing a worldview. Its second part gives you
a thorough "walk-through" of the historic Christian worldview. It will really help you understand what a Christian should believe. The final section walks
through four other worldviews -- naturalism (atheism), postmodernism, pantheistic monism (the base of most Eastern religions), and Islam. It shows how
all of those worldviews fail some of the important criteria. The final chapter shows how historic Christianity passes all the tests. It should greatly
strengthen anyone's faith!

A World of Difference: Putting Christian Truth-Claims to the Worldview Test By Kenneth Richard Samples / Baker Books * Having faced a profound test of his own belief system during a life-and-death crisis, Samples's faith stood firm. Now, using the Apostle's Creed, he uses nine distinct tests to compare the Christian worldview with current religious and philosophical "competitors" including Islam, postmodernism, naturalism, and pantheistic monism. Learn why Christianity is uniquely reasonable, verifiable, and livable! 320 pages, softcover from Baker. |
Don't Waste Your Life is a great little book by John Piper encouraging you to make the most of your life for Christ's glory.

Don't Waste Your Life By John Piper / Crossway Books & Bibles In this provocative work Pastor Piper challenges us to set aside the trivial pursuit of self-fulfillment so that we can develop a deeper passion for God. Piper believes that if we passionately submit the sufferings we endure, the risks we take, and the goals we set to the pursuit of God's glory, then not one moment of our lives will be wasted. Don't miss this opportunity to rekindle your passion for the cross of Christ and the glory of God. |
